Abstract

This study aims to determine the growth and yield response of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) to calcium (Ca) and iron (Fe) nutrients in a DFT (Deep Flow Technique) hydroponic system. This research was conducted at the hydroponic house of the Department of Agricultural Cultivation, Agriculture Faculty of Sriwijaya University, from August to October 2022. This research was conducted using the Completely Randomized Design (CRD) method with three treatments and three replications, namely P0 = AB mix, P1 = 10 ppm, P2 = 300 ppm. Variability analysis was done with the ANOVA test and continued with the least significant difference test (LSD) with a real level of 5%. Parameters observed in this study included plant height (cm), number of leaves (strands), leaf greenness, leaf fresh weight (g), stem fresh weight (g), root fresh weight (g), total fresh weight (g), leaf dry weight (g), stem dry weight (g), root dry weight (g), total dry weight (g), leaf area (cm2), and root length (cm). The results showed that the application of calcium (Ca) and iron (Fe) solutions must increase the growth and yield of lettuce plants. 300 ppm calcium (Ca) treatment on lettuce plants (Lactuca sativa L.) gave a significant effect on the root fresh weight parameter. 10 ppm iron (Fe) treatment was the best treatment on plant growth and yield in plant height, number of leaves, leaf size, leaf fresh weight, stem fresh weight, root fresh weight, and leaf dry weight of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) with DFT (Deep Flow Technique) hydroponic system cultivation.
