Abstract

Cataract is every opacity in the lens. Its always happen with ageing.ter are some factors that influence lens ageing and causes cataract. Type of research is descriptive survey with cross sectional approach for people age > 40 years in 3-4 Ulu Village and 5 Ulu Village Sub-district Seberang Ulu Palembang City Year 2012. Total count of sample is 73 people taken by proportional multistage random sampling and systematic sampling technique. From 75 sample (64 women and 11 men), cataract prevalence count is Moreover, based on Chi-square analysis there are no significance relationship between age (p=l), gender (p=0,153), family history (p=l), smoking (p=0,736), consuming alcohol (p=l), ocular infection (p=l), myopia (p=0,502), ocular trauma (p=l), hypertension (p=0,145), diabetes mellitus (p=0.692), and cataractogenous drug used and the incidence of cataract. The result of t-Test analysis showed sunlight exposure mean at citizens with cataract are lower than the other (1,244 hour; p=0,016) and Body Mass Index mean at citizens with cataract are higher (25,0041; p=0,370). Have been though that there are bias sampling possibility. Cataract Prevalence in 3-4 Ulu Village and 5 Ulu Village are higher than cataract prevalence in South Sumatera (2,4%, Surkesnas 2007). There are no relationship between risk factor and causes and cataract incidence.
