Abstract

Introduction: Physical growth of children can be divided into four main periods. Two periods characterized by rapid growth and the two other periods characterized by slow growth. During the six-month period of prenatal and postnatal, physical growth is very rapid. At the end of the first year of postnatal life tends to slow down and become stable until the child enters adolescence (8-12 years). At the age of 15 or 16 years the rapid physical growth will retum, commonly called "the explosive growth of puberty". This period was foliowed by a quiet period again until the child enters the adult stage. Methods: This study is a type of research that is analytic survey with cross-sectional design, which means aimed to determine the growth status and age of menarche between Elementary School Students in urban and suburban schools. Determination of urban and suburbans schools done by purposive sampling technique. Sampling was done based on the number of classes with a purposive sampling technique. Results: From the uni variant data obtained 58.5% good nutritional status and 41.5% malnutrition status, 69.5% normal growth and 30.5% abnormal growth, 63.4% menarche age normal and 36.6% menarche age not normal. From the bivariate data obtained there is a relationship between growth status and nutritional status of students (p value: 0.001), a relationship between menarche age and nutritional status of student (p value: 0.000). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between the level of nutrition, social environment and economic status with growth status and menarche age in primary school age children.
