Abstract

Background: Hydronephrosis is one of the main causes of damage to the anatomical stmcture of kidney and kidney failure. Urinary tract stones is a major cause of hydronephrosis in Indonesia. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of urinary tract stones patients as risk factors of hydronephrosis in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang . Methods. The study was an analytical observational study using cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang from August to December 2014. Samples were 264 patients with urinary track stones. Data was analyzed using Chi square test for several variables such as sex, location of the stones in the urinary tract, and a long course of the disease as well as independent sample t-test for age variable. Results: The results showed that female with urinary tract stones (p=0.000, odds ratio=2.6\7) and patients with pyelum stones (p=0.000, odds ratio= 1.543) were significantly related to hydronephrosis. Patients with course of the disease more than 6 months (p=0.957, odds ratio=0.985) were not related to hydronephrosis. There was no significant difference of age between urinary tract stones patients with hydronephrosis and patients with no hydronephrosis (p=0.723). Conclusion: Urinary track stones patients which were female and had pyelum stones were at risk to suffer hydronephrosis.
