Abstract

Several oceanography studies were conducted at the deeper part of Makasar Strait near to the Makasarlsland (Meyers et aI., 1995; Meyer, 1996; Susanto and Gordon2005). On the other hand, little oceanograpy studies were conducted near the East Coast of Kalimantan. In this region was also several oil and gases exploration and exploitation such as Total EE Chevron Oil Companies. To study the temperature, salinity, density and transparency structures, CTD measurements were conducted at 9 stations in December 2007. Tidal and current were also measured during 2 days and 2 nights at one mooring point. The coastal circulation patterns were predicted by using 2-D hydrodynamics model from SMS 8.1. Result showed, in general, temperature, salinity, and density vertical stratification were observed either cross shore line or parallel to shoreline. Simulation model results showed that maximum current speed due to tide effect in north-west season was 38.6 cm/s with the direction away from the coast. When wind data input into the model, maximum speed was 37.8 cm/s southward. Key words : Stratification, CTD and Hydrodinamic Model
