Abstract

In IC-Flash lightning itself there is a special type which is generally called Narrow Bipolar Pulses (NBP) or Narrow Bipolar Events (NBE). These lightning flashes also often initiate CG flash lightning flashes. NBE consists of two types, namely positive polarity (PNBE) and negative polarity (NNBE). Based on previous research, there were 12908 lightning recording data, but only 2545 data could be analyzed. The NBE data obtained were 2306 data for positive polarity and 239 data for negative polarity. This study aims to classify NBE data from a total of 12908 lightning recording data using python programming with the naïve Bayes classification method. Then the value of the classification result data will be determined from the NBE wave characterization parameters. The results of this study obtained 2407 NBE data with 2204 data for positive polarity, while for negative polarity 203 data were obtained. For the average values of the NNBE characteristics starting from rise time, zero crossing time, full width at half maximum and overshoot/peak amplitude ratio respectively are 3.75 ± 3.33 µs, 6.59 ± 4.40 µs, 3.29 ± 2.20 µs and 2.97 ± 22.81 with a pulse duration of 25.62 ± 8.07 us. Furthermore, PNBE obtained a longer duration than NNBE with a pulse duration of 33.25 ± 10.89 us. The average values of other characteristics starting from rise time, zero crossing time, full width at half maximum and overshoot/peak amplitude ratio respectively are 5.1 ± 3.44 µs, 8.28 ± 4.29 µs, 4.14 ± 2.14 µs and 0.32 ± 0.25. When compared with the same number of lightning recordings, the programming results data are relatively close to the same value as previous studies.
