Abstract

Composite is a combination of binding matrices with two or more reinforcing materials, composites also have different properties from their own forming material. Composite properties that are different from the forming material can make composite materials get better properties on one side, and on the other side the composite material can decrease in quality. In this study to reduce quality degradation, a heat treatment process was carried out. The parameters used in this process are solution treatment with temperatures (510 oC, 520 oC, and 530 oC) and holding times (2, 3, and 4 hours), aftPer the solution treatment is followed by an aging process with temperatures (150 oC, 175 oC and 200 oC), and the holding times (1, 2 and 3 hours). Corrosion testing was carried out on these specimens to determine the corrosion rate. Corrosion testing was carried out for 15 days using different heat treatment parameters, but using the same percentage of NaCl of 5% of the total volume. Then data processing is carried out for the optimization process using the Taguchi method. From the research obtained the optimum results of corrosion testing using the Taguchi method, the most influential parameter to the corrosion rate is the aging temperature (Factor B) with a percentage of 57.34%, holding time in aging (Factor C) of 27.24%, holding time on the solution treatment (Factor D) of 7.95%, and the solution treatment temperature (Factor A) of 1.66%
