Abstract

Anemia is a health problem in Indonesia and young women are a vulnerable group requiring anemia. Young women who suffer from anemia would have a negative impact on the growth and development of the fetus in relation to pregnancy which affects pregnancy and childbirth, even causing maternal and child mortality. One cause of anemia is iron deficiency. Therefore, the aim of this research is to determine the risk factor for anemia of teenage girls.Method: This research is a descriptive study with cross sectional study design. Performed at Senior High School 1 Sp Padang, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency. The study design used was cross sectional. A total of 70 students were taken as research samples.Results: The results showed the prevalence of anemia in adolescent girls in Senior High School 1 Sp Padang was 65.7%, there was a relationship between knowledge (p value = 0.007) with anemia and not related to Body Mass Index (p value = 0.151), income family (p value = 0.208) and menstruation duration (p value = 0.654) with anemia in adolescent girls.Conclusion: Anemia was not related to body mass index, family income and menstrual period experienced by young women. To avoid the occurrence of anemia in adolescent girls need increasing of knowledge of adolescents about the need for consumption of nutritious foods so that the body does not lack or excess of substances needed by the body.
