Abstract

The diversity and abundance of insects in the riparian zone of Musi river Palembang city was under pressure human activity. Therefore, information about the diversity and abundance of insects on Palembang Musi riparian zone with different habitats condition is important to be observed. The method or this research is survey. The insects survey sampling done by exploring every station observation to about two 2 kilometers in survey location. Different methods of sampling insects, namely the direct capture, pitfall trap, light trap, yellow trap, and sweep net were applied. Data on the number of individual and the species composition were used to analyze the diversity and abundance of insects. Furthermore, the diversity and abundance of species between location survey with different habitat conditions and between orders compared. The results of research showed that there were 204 species, 70 families and 10 orders of insects Musi riparian zone of Palembang city. The index of the highest diversity of insects was found in Boombaru and the lowest was found in Plaju. The highest abundance/number of specimens was found in Sungai Ijuk and the lowest number of specimens was found in Gandus. The diversity and abundance of insects, reviewed order-wise, showed that the highest insect diversity was found in the Hymenoptera and the lowest was found in the Blatodea. The highest abundance/number of specimens was found in the Hymenoptera and the lowest was found in the Mantodea.
