Abstract

The research purposes are to (1) calculate productivity level of old rubber trees in South Sumatra. (2) measure farmer?s income structure of the farmers. (3) analyze determinant factors of farmer?s decision to replant old rubber trees, and (4) analyze fund availability of potential farmers in replanting rubber plant. The survey method was applied to collect data and information from the sample field chosen by multistage sampling method. The regencies samples are Musi Rawas, Muara Enim, Lahat, OKU, Lubuklinggau and Prabumulih, the farmer samples were 127 persons who have not replanted and 84 persons who have replanted. The results indicated that productivity level of the old rubber trees was only 27,81% from that of potential productive trees, and only 61,54% from productive plant using prime clone. The farmers? income from rubber estates contributed for 90,33% in the total income for those who have not replanted and 90,25% for who have replanted. The size area and income level significantly influenced farmer?s decision to replant their rubber trees. The average first farmersgroup saving was Rp.8.649.735a year, excluding potential income from selling old rubber woods. Farmer?s potential net income subtracted by cutting fee and transport fee for area size of 2,53 Ha was Rp.12.650,000. The potential savings added on potential income resulted farmer?s potential money of Rp.21.299.735 compared with replanting costs needed for replanting 2,53 Ha land from year 0 to 5 was Rp.36.659.700. It means that farmers only have own fund 58, 10% from total replanting cost requirement.
