Abstract

This research was conducted on Green House of Agriculture Technology Department of Sriwijaya University, on 31th October 2017 until 8 April 2018. This research was aimed to know the effect of growing media in hydroponics system on the growth of red spinach (Amaranthus tricolor L.). The method of this research was group randomised non factorial design with 3 planting media treatment that are rockwool, coconut husk and areca husk. The observed parameters were electrical power requirement, water flow discharge with plant indicator including plant height, leaf number, fresh weight of plant, dry weight of plant, and roots dry weight. The results showed that treatment of A2 with coconutcoir medium significantly affected plant height (19.53 cm) of leaf number (16 pieces), fresh weight of plant (26.00 g), dry weight of plant (1.69 g) and roots dry weight (0.25 g).
