Abstract

Irritant contact dermatitis is a skin inflamation due to direct cytotoxic effects from chemicals or irritants. In a car washing business, the employees will be exposed to irritants from puff soap or detergent such as Alkyl Benzene Sulfonate (ABS), Sodium Alkylbenzene Sulfonate and Lauryl Alkylbenzene Sulfonate. The purpose of this research was to find out factors related to the incidence of irrtitant contact dermatitis on car washing employees. This research was a quantitative study with a cross sectional study design using Chi Square test and Fisher Exact test. This research uses 54 samples of car washing employees. Doctor’s history uses to determine the diagnosis of irritant contact dermatitis. This research uses questionnaires and observation sheets to collect data. The result from the statistical test shows that there is a relationship between age, years of service and history of previous skin diseases variables with the incidence of irritant contact dermatitis. It can be concluded that age, years of service and history of previous skin diseases variables have a significant relationship with the incidence of irritant contact dermatitis. This research suggested the company to provide Personal Protective Equipment and monitor its use, increasing the number of employees and work shifts to reduce the risk of irritant contact dermatitis.
