Abstract

Beef cattle are a type of cattle raised to produce meat and as a source of animal protein. Belgian Blue Cow is a type of beef cattle from Belgium that has high meat productivity because it has dual muscles so that it produces more carcasses compared to local cattle. One of the reproductive technologies commonly used to increase the population and performance of livestock is Artificial Insemination. Artificial Insemination is one of the technologies used to facilitate the marriage of ruminants and poultry or commonly known by the people of Indonesia with the term injection marriage. This technology can be used to develop Belgian Blue cattle in Indonesia by marrying them with Brahman Cross cattle. This research aims to study physiological status including body temperature, heart rate and respiratory frequency of Belgian Blue cattle from Artificial Insemination in Sembawa BPTU-HPT. This research was conducted at Sembawa BPTU-HPT at Sembawa Regency on 07 November - 21 November 2018. The research method used was the descriptive method. The parameters observed included observing body temperature, breathing frequency, and heart rate. The average body temperature has a value between 35-37ºC, body temperature is still normal. Heart rate on average has a value between 103-125 times/minute. The average respiratory rate has a value between 82-114 times/minute. The results of this research are Belgian Blue calves from artificial insemination having normal body temperature, fast heart rate and fast breathing frequency. However, the adaptation of the Belgian Blue calf from artificial insemination is better than that of the Belgian Blue calf for the transfer of embryos in the tropics.
