Abstract

PM10 is one of the five critical parameters that are the focus of studies on air pollution to health. PM10 can be generated from transportation, industry, offices, and housing so that with the high intensity of vehicles passing the higher it can cause air pollution due to PM10 dust. The results of air pollution measurements in southern Sumatra by 2015 average indicate that the calculation results ≥ 420 μg/m3 or are in the range of air pollution standard index (ISPU) of 300 in the dangerous category. PM10 can be harmful to health because it can go directly into the lungs and settle in the alveoli. The purpose of this study is to analyze the major health risks due to PM10 exposure in the community in Betung of Banyuasin District. The design of this study used the method of environmental health risk assessment (ARKL). The concentration of risk agent obtained by direct measurement using High Volume Air Sampler type max 5. Weight, daily exposure time, exposure frequency, and exposure duration were measured from 37 respondents. Health rsik estimates expressed in risk quotient (RQ) considered to pose a health risk if RQ > 1. The results show the RQ of PM10 exposure for realtime calculation shows the number of 4,428 and for the exposure calculation the lifetime shows the number 3,857. The calculation results show that the RQ of PM10 exposure can pose a risk of health effects so that it is necessary to decrease the concentration of PM10 by reforestation in the area by planting crops that can reduce air pollution such as planting mahogany trees because mahogany trees can reduce air pollution can reduce air pollution about 47%-69% because it has leaves that can absorb harmfull pollutants.
