Abstract

Air pollution in urban areas generally occurs due to an increase in urbanization flows, transportation sector contributes 75% of the total harmful gas emissions to health. Gas exposure to motorized vehicle emissions is felt directly by the traffic policeman as a population at risk of being exposed to motor vehicle fumes. At Palembang city, the number of vehicles has increased significantly in the last 3 years that the potential for an increase in the following years has an impact on decreased air quality. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of predisposing, enabling and reinforcing factors with the use of respiratory protective devices in traffic policeman. It was a quantitative research with descriptive method while the data collected was cross-sectional. The amount of sample was 56 people, sampling technique with Quota sampling. The data will be analyzed by using univariate and bivariate. The result showed that there was a correlation between years of service (p-value=0,017), knowledge (p-value=0,015), attitude (p-value=0,034), comfort (p-value= 0,019), and coworker (p-value= 0,032) with the practice of wearing masks. In another case, ther were no correlation between age (p-value= 0,336), education (p-value= 0,269), availability of PPE (p-value= 0,329), OSH training (p-value= 0,229) with the practice of wearing masks. 48.2% of traffic policemen do not wear masks related to years of service, knowledge, attitude, comfort and supportive co-workers. To increase traffic policemen awareness in the use of respiratory protective equipment by providing work safety training or counseling related to the dangers of air pollution and the use of masks.
