Abstract

Diagenesis is a change from sediment to sedimentary rocks where during the diagenesis process changes occur physically or chemically. Through petrographic observations, it can determine the type of diagenesis that develops in the sandstone of the Menggala Formation while determining its diagenetic regime. The purpose of this study is to explain the geological processes in the study area and the diagenesis process in the sandstone of the Menggala Formation. The research area is administratively located in Tanjung Pauh Village, Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra Province. The area of the study area is 25 km.. The method used in this study is in the form of a literature study from previous researchers, geological field mapping for collecting data in the form of rock lithology, rock position and geological structure that developed in research area. Than laboratory analysis in the form of petrographic analysis. From the method it was obtained the distribution of rock lithology, the developing geological structure and the sandstone diagenesis process at the study area. The geomorphology unit is divided into 4 namely hills denuudational slopes are sloping (Pc), low hills denudational steep slopes - rather steep (Prl) and low hills denudational slope slopes - sloping (Prl) and Artificial Lake (DA). The stratigraphy of the research area are divided into 3 rock units which are sorted from old to young, namely slate units of Kuantan Formation Tanjung Pauh member, conglomerat units of Fanglomerat Formation and sandstone unit of Menggala Formation. The geological structure that developed in the study area are Tanjung Pauh Sinkline with the NW - SE direction, Tanjung Pauh Fault and shear joint. Determination of sandstone diagenesis process in the study area using petrographic analysis method. From the petrographic results it is known that sandstone diagenesis processes in the research area are compaction, dissolution and cementation. Of the characteristics that exist, sandstones in the study area are included in the regime of mesogenesis until telogenesis.
