Abstract

Pegagan duck is one type of poultry that can be used as a producer of eggs and meat. Performance is a very complex process that includes weight gain and growth. A good performance has a high body weight gain, high feed consumption, and low feed conversion. Probiotic is kind of feed additive which contains nonpathogenic microbes that could improve performance because probiotic can spur the digestive tract by restoring microflora balance inside the intestines. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of organic acid salt and probiotic from Hymenachne acutigluma silage to performance of Pegagan duck. This research was conducted from June to November 2017 in experimental enclosure and Laboratory of Animal Feed and Nutrition, Departement of Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This research used a completely randomized design (CRD) which consisted of 6 treatments and 4 replicates, among others: P0 (control), P1 (probiotic), P2(organic acid salt), P3 (Tetrasiklin), P4 (probiotic + organic acid salt), P5 (probiotic + organic acid salt + tetracycline). The observed variables were feed consumption, body weight gain, and feed conversion. The result of this study showed that organic acid salt and probiotic from Hymenachne acutigluma silage did not significantly affect (P>0,05) the feed consumption, body weight gain, and feed conversion ratio. The conclusion is the provision of organic acid salt dan probiotic from Hymenachne acutigluma silage is unable to increase the performance of Pegagan duck.
