Abstract

This thesis entitled Management of Slum Residential Area in Kelurahan 5 Ulu Subdistrict Seberang Ulu 1 By Department of Settlement Housing and Settlement Area of Palembang City, Background of this research is the problem of slum settlement is a classic problem that has long been developed in big cities, settlement problems slums became a problem and obstacles for the development of the city, especially in the city of Palembang. The type of research used is descriptive with qualitative research method. Data collection used is by interview and documentation techniques. The theory used in this study is the theory of management according to George R. Terry, where George R. Terry divides the four basic functions of management, namely planning, organizing, directing, and supervision. The results showed that the Management of Slum Residential Area in Kelurahan 5 Ulu Subdistrict Seberang Ulu 1 By the Office of Housing and Housing Settlement Palembang City has been running with the maximum where seen from the four basic functions of management that has been running in accordance with the first dimension of the first dimension is planning, DPRKP perform planning stages from conducting surveys to slums, the second dimension of organizing, DPRKP forming work teams in the implementation of slum area management, third dimension of direction, DPRKP distributes duties to each field in the service, and the dimensions the last being supervision, the supervised objectives in this management are the slum residents who need help for the repair of uninhabitable homes. This research suggests to Department of Settlement Housing and Settlement Area of Palembang City to be consistent in every activity and more focus on all actions, both DPRKP should keep cooperation between DPRKP with other institution or third party, and the last in survey implementation should be done before the kelurahan provides data in order to know the initial description of the slums.
