Abstract

The soil characteristics of post mining and non-mining land are generally very different. Mining is done by peeling dam and damaging the topsoil so that it affects the suitability of oil palm crops. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the physical and chemical properties of soils in post-mining and non-mining land namely oil palm and scrubland to assess land suita bility for oil palm crops in Sempan Village Pemali District of Bangka Regency. This research was conducted in November 2017 to February 2018 with intensive level survey method. The results showed that the physical and chemical properties of the soil in post-mining and non-post mining areas were located on soil-to-crude soil-based soil textures, relatively poor drainage to good, and low K2O levels on land oil palm. Post-mining land has S3-fn land suitability (less suitable for nutrient retention limit factor and nutrient availability) that can be upgraded to a suitability class of S2 (reasonably appropriate) by indicating the efficiency of input given. Compliance in non-mining land has N class (not suitable) on oil palm and S3-fn (less suitable for limiting factor and nutrient availability) on scrubland. The texture of the soil on oil palm can not be fixed so that its potential suitability remains in the class N. Whereas the suitability of shrubland can be increased to suitability of S2 potential (sufficient). It is advisable to conduct further research on organic matter content and fertilizer recommendations for oil palm crops in this location
