Abstract

The seaweed S. polycystum one type of seaweed commonly found in Indonesian waters, seaweed used in the study was from Pahawang Island, Lampung. The presence of these antioxidants has an important role in the Prevention of diseases associated with free radicals such as cancer, cardiovascular disease and aging. Seaweed can be used as a source of natural antioxidants that are safer for living things, one of which is the type of brown seaweed. This study aims to analyzing the antioxidant potential of S. polycystum seaweed extract from Pahawang Island, Lampung, to inhibit free radicals through the lC50 value, analyzes and purifies antioxidant compounds by Gravity column chromatography, and analyzes GC-MS test results. The result of this study seaweed S. polycystum has antioxidant potential methanol extract strong category with lC50 value of 40 ppm, ethyl acetate extract of 63 ppm and n-hexane 697 ppm. There are 7 combined fractions obtained from 115 vials of methanol extract S. polycystum and 1 fraction of antioxidant potential is very strong with lC50 value of 39 ppm. Test results GC-MS methanol extracted have 40 peaks and 120, the compound with the highest area with 13,27%, 9,75%, 9,34%, 8,75%, 7,44%. Methanol extract S. polycystum contains metabolite compounds such as fatty acids, steroids, triterpenoids, oleic acid, ascorbic acid, palmitic acid ester.
