Abstract

Malaria is contagious and deadly disease that very dominant in the tropics and sub-tropics area. In Indonesia currently malaria is still be a problem, on avarage the cases are estimated at 15 million clinical cases per year. The API value in South Sumatera Province has a figure of 0.36 per 1000 inhabitants. Whereas at Sumber Harum Health Center has an API value of 0.60 per 1000 inhabitants. The purpose of this study was to determine the relation between the physical environment to the case of malaria in the work area of Sumber Harum Health Center, Tungkal Jaya, Musi Banyuasin. This research is used a case control or retrospective designstudy, to find out the relation of risk factors including the inside home environment, the outside home environment and the climate that affects (cause-effect relationship) malaria. The number of samples in this study were 84 respondents, the case samples were taken based on laboratoryum data results from health center (hospital based) is 42 people and the control was randomly taken according to the inclusion criteria of the control group of 42 people. The case group was all people who were declared clinical malaria, while the control were all people who were declared malaria free. The results of the bivariate analysis which were the risk factors were the presenceof wire netting (OR = 8.125 95% CI = 2.921-22.589), house wall density (OR = 9.481 95% CI = 3.451-26.044), the presence of house ceiling (OR = 4.5800 95% CI = 1.811-11.582), the presence of bushes ( OR = 4.580 95% CI = 1.881-11.582) the presence of ditches (OR = 4.976 95% CI = 1.973-12.552), temperature (OR = 2.647 95% CI = 1.096-6.395), humidity (OR = 8.125 95% CI = 2.921-22.598), and wind speed (OR = 3.333 95% CI = 1.284-8.653). Through this research, it is expected that the Department of Health will carry out monitoring, counseling, and education activities on the maintenance of the environment so as not to become the mosquito habitat and provide material assistance so that the society can improve the appropriate housing.
