Abstract

Indonesia ranks second highest incidence of tuberculosis following India. Palembang is a city with the second highest number of cases in South Sumatra. The children tuberculosis incidences in Palembang increases in 2014-2017. Tuberculosis is a disease with long-standing treatment. Risk of transmission and complications that occur in children due to inadequate prevention and treatment. In addition tuberculosis infection occurs due to low immunity. Nutritional status plays a role in increasing body immunity for children to ward off tuberculosis infections. This research is to analyze the relationship between nutritional status and children tuberculosis at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital Palembang. Method: This research method uses a case-control design with total sampling technique. The respondents were 16 cases and 46 controls. Bivariate data analysis using X2 test, and multivariate analysis using multiple logistic regression. Results: Nutritional status was associated with the incidence of childhood tuberculosis (pvalue= 0.017). The results of multivariate analysis showed that children who experienced nutritional status were less at risk of tuberculosis by 5.88 times compared to children who had good nutritional status (IK95% 1.28-27.07) after being controlled for age and contact history. Conclusion: Nutritional status is related to the incidence of child tuberculosis after controlling for age and contact history. It is hoped that mothers can pay attention to children's nutritional status and nutritional intake to support the body's immunity in fighting tuberculosis infection with balanced nutrition guidelines at the beginning of the child's growth.
