Abstract
The Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia noted that in January-August 2021, more than 20,000 tons of B3 waste, including from hospitals throughout Indonesia, contributed 383 tons per day of treating Covid-19 patients. The increase in medical waste is also a new threat to environmental sustainability. This threat can be seen from the increase in B3 waste that cannot be decomposed naturally. Not to mention, this medical waste has the potential to spread the transmission of Covid-19. The purpose of this study was to determine and evaluate the management of Covid-19 medical B3 waste at Palembang BARI Hospital. The type of research used is qualitative research with a descriptive approach through in-depth interviews and direct observation (observation). This study involved 5 purposive sampling informants. The results of this study are that there are still management stages such as the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which have not been fully used when transporting Covid-19 waste by officers, Transportation, weighing and recording have met good and correct standards, storage and processing those who have not used a freezer for waste that has not been directly processed further and waste treatment using an incinerator and in collaboration with a 3rd party. The conclusion of this study shows that the implementation of Covid-19 waste management at the Palembang BARI Hospital still does not meet the Minister of Health standards. It is recommended that the Palembang BARI Hospital be so that the hospital can participate in socialization and training regarding the management of Covid-19 waste and carry out stricter supervision regarding the process of solid medical B3 waste management.
