Abstract

Background. Burnout is a chronic response to emotional and interpersonal burden in relation to work or activity that provided care. Previous study indicated high prevalence of burnout in Medical Student. This study aims to determine and analyse factors affecting burnout syndrome in medical students at Faculty of Medicine Universitas Sriwijaya Palembang. Methods. This is a cross-sectional design study. A total of 300 students participated in this study. Using proportionate random sampling, primary data is taken by using Modified Maslach Burnout Inventory-Student Survey, General self-efficacy, Multidimensional social support, Pittsburgh sleep quality index, satisfaction, control and accomplishment. Chi-square analysis and binary logistic regression is carried out to analyse data. Results. A total of 95 respondent (95/300, 31,7%) presented high level of Exhaustion, 100 (100/300, 33,3%) had high depersonalization, and 96 had low personal accomplishment. The three-dimensional criterion indicated that 49 (16,3%) presented with burnout. There is a significant association between selfefficacy (PR=8,918, CI=3,637-21,886), social support (PR=2,434, CI=1,367- 4,335), satisfaction (PR=4,055, CI=2,157-7,626), control (PR=2,530, CI=1,521-4,207), and accomplishment (PR=4,236, CI=2,655-6,759). Dominant factors affecting burnout is self-efficacy, satisfaction, and accomplishment. Conclusion. This study showed high prevalence of burnout in medical students of Universitas Sriwijaya. Self-efficacy, satisfaction, and accomplishment is determinant factors of burnout.
