Abstract
Ferreira (2015) stated that 90% of people stored the toothbrushes in the bathroom. Improper toothbrush storage places can caused bacterial contamination of toothbrush bristles. This study aimed to determine the effect of storage places of toothbrush on the amount of contaminant bacteria on toothbrush bristles. Study method was quasi experimental used 30 samples of toothbrush bristles that were divided into 2 groups, i.e. stored in the bathroom group, and stored outside the bathroom group for 30 days. To count the number of contaminant bacteria, bristles were cut and soaked in brain heart infusion and was followed by vortex mixing. Stored in the bathroom group had a higher number of contaminant bacteria on toothbrush bristles, with 78.730 CFU/ml, while stored outside the bathroom group had a lower number with 29.540 CFU/ml. The conclusion of this study was there is significant influence between the storage places on the amount of contaminant bacteria on toothbrush bristles.
