Abstract
Background: Staphylococcus aureus is a gram-positive bacterium that causes skin diseases, pneumonia, respiratory tract infections, nosocomial bacteremia and is resistant to antibiotics. The incidence of antibiotic-resistant Staphylococcus aureus is increasing. Binahong is a herbal plant that has many benefits, one of which is as an antibacterial. Methods: This study used an experimental design. The concentrations of binahong extract used were 25%, 50%, and 75% concentrations with negative control being DMSO and positive control being Cefriaxone disk with 5 repetitions. The antibacterial effect was tasted with Kirby-Bauer test. Data were analyzed with SPSS IBM 2022 with Kruskal-Wallis test. Results: Binahong extract effectively inhibited the bacterial zone of Staphylococcus aureus with p value <0.05. The most effective concentration of binahong extract is 75% extract concentration. Conclusion: Binahong extract effectively inhibits Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The best concentration of binahong extract is 75% concentration.
