Abstract

A study have been done to investigate the effect of rind petai ethanolic (Parkia speciosa Hassk.) on memory enhancement of white male mice of Swiss-Webster strain which inhibited with scopolamine using passive avoidance test method. The experimental study used 30 mice divided into 6 groups, which were untreated normal group, positive control group given 500 mg/kgBW piracetam, negative control group given 1% sodium CMC suspension, and treatment group 1, treatment 2, treatment 3 were each given ethanol extract of rind petai with dose of 75, 150, and 300 mg/kgBW orally for 21 days. Retention duration data obtained was analyzed by one-way ANOVA and continued with LSD test with 95% confidence level. Ethanol extract of rind petai contain flavonoid as much 27,6 mg. The results showed that ethanol extract of rind petai dose 75, 150, and 300 mg/kgBW has no significant difference (p>0.05) with positive control group but is difference (p<0.05) with negative control group and normal control group. Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that ethanol extract of rind petai 75, 150, and 300 mg/kgBW give effect to improve the memory of mice induced by scopolamine, with dose 300 mg/kgBW show best effect because has the longest retention duration.
