Abstract

Sangkuriang catfish (Clarias sp.) is one of the highly price fresh water comodities, which its production need to increased. Good availability of feed can affect to increase in catfish production. Phytoplankton abundance in waters can be useful as natural food to catfish. The addition of liquid organic fertilizer is an alternative to stimulate the growth of phytoplankton in the water. The aim of this research is to know the effect of the addition of liquid organic fertilizer to survival rate, the growth and water quality of catfish rearing. This research has been held on March to April 2017 at Laboratorium Budidaya Perairan, Aquaculture Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The research used Completely Randomized Design with five treatments and three replications. The treatment was addition of different liquid organic fertilizer namely P1 (control), P2 (liquid organic fertilizer A), P3 (liquid organic fertilizer B), P4 (liquid organic fertilizer C) and P5 (liquid oganic fertilizer D). Parameters observed were water quality as turbidity, pH, DO, ammonia, nitrate and phytoplankton abundance, survival rate, absolute growth, and feed efficiency. The result showed that addition of liquid organic fertilizer A (P2) shows supporting result indicated by survival rate 85%, absolute average growth 2,3 cm, absolute average weight 1,43 g, feed efficiency 89,67% and well-ranged water quality for supporting life and growth of catfish.
