Abstract

Concrete is a brittle material and has a low tensile strength compared to other materials. When cracks occur, the quality of the concrete will decrease, so new innovations will be made to cover the weaknesses of the concrete. The innovation is self-healing that uses bacteria as an agent that can close the concrete gap. This study used Bacillus Subtilis 4%, 5% and 6% solutions with a concentration of 106 cells / ml as subtitute of the water volume in the concrete mixture. The treatment method used is water immersion method for 7 days, 14 days and 28 days. The tests carried out in this study were the slump test, compressive strength testing, specific gravity and water absorbtion testing. In the slump tests discussed in this study it was concluded that the concrete mixture did not significantly affect the properties of fresh concrete. For testing the compressive strength in this study it can be concluded that the addition of bacteria to the concrete mixture is able to increase the compressive strength of the concrete with a B-5 mixture code which is a mixture has a maximum increase in compressive strength of 28.86. % at the age of 28 days. Specific gravity obtained in this study can be concluded that the more bacteria mixed into concrete can increase the density of concrete. In the water absorption test it can be concluded that the more use of Bacillus Subtilis bacteria results in the less pore produced in concrete, but the increase is not significant after more than 5% use of Bacillus Subtilis bacteria.
