Abstract

This study examines the significance of the Mbatur Puyang Atung Bungsu tradition for the people in Penyandingan Village who still carry out this tradition. The purpose of this research is to find out the basic reasons why the people carry out this tradition. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method, while the number of informants in this study was seventeen informants. Data collection techniques are done by interview, observation and documentation. This research uses the theory of symbolic interactionism from Herbert Blumer. The results of this study indicate that there is a community background implementing the tradition. The process of implementing Mbatur Puyang Atung Bungsu tradition has three stages namely the stage before the implementation, the stage of the day of implementation and the stage after the implementation of the tradition. This gives rise to the meaning contained in the interaction of actors, the meaning contained in the pilgrimage equipment and the meaning contained in the pilgrimage procession.
