Abstract

Tekelan (Chromolaena odorata (L.) R.M. King & H. Rob.) is one of the plant belonging to the family Compositae (Asteraceae). The phytochemical screening showed that the n-hexane extract of tekelan leaf was positive containing flavonoid, phenolic, and terpenoid compounds. The ethyl acetate extract of tekelan leaf was positive containing flavonoid, phenolic, and tanin compounds. The ethanol extract of tekelan leaf was positive containing alkaloid, flavonoid, phenolic, tanin, steroid, and saponin. The purpose of this research is to determine the antibacterial activity of the n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and ethanol extract of tekelan leaf in concentration 5, 10, dan 15% (w/v) against Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria. Simplicia was extracted by the maceration method using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and ethanol as solvents. The extracts were tested antibacterial activity and determine of the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) by the paper disc with agar well diffusion method. The result antibacterial activity test the n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and ethanol extract of tekelan leaf showed activity weak againts Streptococcus mutans bacteria and showed activity weak until strong againts Lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria. The result showed that the MIC value of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and ethanol extract of tekelan leaf was 2% (w/v) against Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria.
