Abstract

Introduction: High grade B cell lymphomas are clinically and pathologically diverse group of hematopoietic neoplasms derive from multiple different pathways of lymphoid transformation. The aggressiveness of lymphoma can be defined by the high index of Ki 67 (>40%). The prognosis of the disease influenced by many factors. Some evidences reveal that the high density of macrophages infiltration, especially M2 macrophages (TAMs) associated with poor prognosis. Even though the density of macrophages and clinicopathological characteristic are proven to have influence on the prognosis of high grade B cell lymphoma, there are not enough evidence discussed about these two prognostic factors. The aim of the study is to determine the association of between macrophage density and clinicopathological characteristic of high grade B cell lymphoma in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Method: A total 45 paraffin blocks diagnosed as high grade B cell lymphoma were observed under the microscope. The number of infiltrating TAMs was counted on a 5 high tumor density area then averaged. The median value of these average was set as a cut-off point to categorized TAMs density from each sample as low or high. The data analysed using chi-square test. Result: The majority of high grade B-cell lymphoma patients are male (57.8%), younger than 60 years of age (73.3%), have a very high index of Ki-67 (62.2%), and DLBCL subtype (73.3%). Conclusion: The distribution of TAMs are not equal in every clinicopathological feature. High density of TAMs is significantly associated with gender.
