Abstract

The composite is the materials formed from a combination of two or more molding materials that having different properties from their bearings. The use of composites has grown rapidly because the composite has there own advantages compared to other alternative materials. The sandwich composite is a composite structure composed of 3 or more layers, composed of a composite plate as a skin (skin) as well as core material (core) in the middle. Composite sandwiches are made to obtain lightweight structures but have high strength and stiffness. This study aims to analyze the physical and mechanical properties of sandwich composites with polyester resin as a matrix, while fiber and core polypropylene honeycomb as reinforcement. The process of making composites using vacuum assisted resin infusion method. Parameters used in this composite manufacturing process are skin thickness variation (2,3, and 4 layers of fiber). In the specimens are done tensile testing and conducted observations on a macro, then performed data processing. The tensile test results showed that the composite with 4 layer fiber skin had a tensile stress of 36.554% larger than composite with 2 layer skin, and had a strain of 32.173% larger than composite with 2 layer skin
