Abstract

The purpose of this study is to re-examine earnings management in the last financial statement before the offerings and in the first financial statement after the offering by using non-manufacturing companies, those are banks. This study found that (a) IPO issuers make earnings management by income decreasing accruals in the last financial statement before and first financial statement after the offerings and (b) the discretionary accruals level in the last financial statement before offerings is higher than discretionary accruals after the offerings. The method used to examine earning management is Jones model that focuses on discretionary accruals as earning management measures. But Jones model needs to be modify because of differnt industries characteristic. Tests were conducted on 12 IPO banks at the Jakarta Stock Exchange. This research is tested by parametric test (Paired Sample T-Test) and non-parametric test (Wilcoxon Test) that have given same result
