Abstract

Maize is important crop in Indonesia, due to the role in food and feed industry. High quality protein maize is really needed because of increasing number of mal-nutrition problem in Indonesia . With respect to the cultivation problem, however, plant breeder not only strives to develop high quality protein maize, but also tolerant to acid soil. The aim of research was to identify the growth and productivity of maize populations (Zea mays L.) derived from cross of Toray and GS accessions, which was known as maize accession that contain high quality protein and tolerant to acid soil, respectively. The research used 8 populations, planted in ear to row pattern with 25 rows per population. Data were analyzed by using Nested Design of Completely Randomized Design. The result showed that there were a high variation in growth. Plant's height was approximately about 160,60-180,18 cm, with dry weight about 172,86-27,68 g plant-1. Due to dry condition during research period, the productivity, however, did not significantly increase with weight of dry seeds of 88,35-98,52 g plant-1, with an axception of A1 assesion with seed dry-weight incerased from 97,76 to 98,44 g plant-1 equivalent to 5.21 to 5.25 ton ha-1.
