Abstract

Belontia hasselti is a swamp fish with the advantage of being developed as a cultivation commodity. One way that can be done is by applying environmental engineering, such as applying a long exposure time (photoperiod). The study aimed to know the best photoperiod for the growth and survival rate of B. hasselti fingerlings. The study used a completely randomized design (CRD) which consisted of 5 treatments with 3 replications, that was P1 photoperiod 24 hours light (24L: 0D), P2 18 hours light, 6 hours dark (18L: 6D), P3 12 hours light, 12 hours dark (12L: 12D), P4 6 hours light, 18 hours dark (6L: 18D), P5 24 hours dark (0L: 24D). Fish fry rearing was performed for 30 days. The results showed that differences in photoperiod had a significant effect on absolute length growth, absolute weight growth, and feed efficiency of B. hasselti fingerlings. Photoperiod 18L:6D was the best treatment which resulted in absolute length growth of 3.01 cm, absolute weight growth of 0.91 g, and feed efficiency of 42.72%. Differences in photoperiod also have a significant effect on blood glucose levels, P1 and P5 were the treatments with the highest blood glucose levels with values of 74.33% and 76.00% respectively. Survival rate and water quality values during the rearing of B. hasselti fingerlings.
