Abstract

The eucalyptus oil production in Indonesia currently has not reached national needs due to the lack of productivity of eucalyptus leaves. One of the factors is apical dominance. To inhibit or to break the apical dominance is by pruning. This research aims to determine the effect of pruning on the growth and production of eucalyptus oil (Melaleuca cajuputi Powell). This research was done at the KHDTK Kemampo, Kayuara Kuning Village, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatera, and Balitbang LHK Palembang from October 2018 to March 2019. The study design used was a randomized block design (RBD), with 4 treatments each with 7 replications, namely trimming the main stem at a height of 50 cm, 80 cm, 110 cm, 140 cm from the ground and 1 control (uncut). The quantitative data obtained then were analyzed using Analysis of Variant (ANOVA) at level of 5%, if the results obtained were significant, then it will be followed by Duncan's multiple range test at the 5% level to find out the differences between each treatment. The results of this research were pruning has a significant effect on the growth of shoots diameter, shoots length, leaves production, and eucalyptus oil production, but has no significant effect on the number of shoots.
