Abstract

The objective of this research was to test compressive strength properties shells composite concrete and latex against concrete strength. The research was conducted from August until October 2016 at Sembawa Rubbery Research Institute and Laboratory of Material and Concrete, Civil Engineering, Sriwijaya University. The methods used in this research was descriptive and parameters observed were aggregate moisture content, concrete moisture content, cement water factor, water pH, and concrete pressure strength. The result showed that water that used in this research had pH of 5 and free from mud, oil, and floating objects. Cement water factor used was 8.66% while the lowest on the stone sample was 2.49%. The highest concrete water content was A2 sample with 14.29% and the lowest was A4 sample with 9.54%. The highest pressure strength was on the normal concrete with 12.17 MPa and the lowest was on A5 sample with 7.74 MPa. Samples of A1. A2. A3. A4. And A5 was concrete structural and already qualified for aplicacion according of SNI SNI 03-2847-2002. With these fact, the shell can be used as rough aggregate alternative for concrete mixture. Because of the effect of latex addition into the concrete had no significant result, it is advisable to do the next research which is about elasticity strength and concrete pull strength, and to find out the best mixture for oil palm shell substitution into the concrete.
