Abstract

Preliminary study of temperature distribution in Gas cooled Fast Reactor (GFR) fuel element has been done. The reactor is designed with uranium metal (U-10%wtZr) as fuel, helium (He) as coolant, stainless steel 316 (SS316) as cladding and power about 500 MWt. The purpose of this research is to analyze reactor design based on thermal hydraulic aspect and also to calculate the temperatur distribution of fuel element in steady state condition. The calculation is calculated using computation with MATLAB (MATrix LABoratory). The result show that reactor is safe with linear maximum power density about 434,931 W/cm and maximum temperatur below fuel melting point, where this state will increase safety of reactor operational.
