Abstract

The objective of this research was to study the performance of rice grain dryer with plate heat exchanger using rice husk fuel. This reseach was conducted at Telang Sari Village, Sub District of Tanjung Lago, Banyuasin, from December 2015 to June 2016. The research method was descriptive and the results presented in tabular or graphical form. The measured parameters were initial and final moisture content, drying air temperature, the drying rate, the energy requirements of drying, the efficiency of heat drying, and the efficiency of drying system. The results showed that the final moisture content of grain obtained after drying for 16 hours was 13.12 %. On the process of grain drying, drying rate value was 0.42 %/hour and the rate of water evaporation materials of 19.75 kg/hour. The total energy required for drying grain was 2284.66 MJ with the rate the energy requirement of 0.040 MJ/sec. Hot air flow rate needed was 1.64 m3/sec, while the flow rate of hot air which is blown fan of 2.35 m3/sec. The efficiency of heat drying and drying system efficiency were equal to 58.07 % and 45.42 %
