Abstract

Background: Breast cancer is an important health problem for the community as its mortalityand morbidity tends to increase annually around the world. In the acute phase there is a specific inhibition of transcription of albumin gene. Albumin is so important in cancer because albumin neutralizes and transports carcinogens, stabilizes cell growth and protects tissue from most forms of radiation. Serum proteins consist of albumin, globulin and total protein. The purpose of this study to determine the correlation of serum protein levels with degree of malignancy in breast cancer patients in Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Method: This study used an observational analytic study with cross sectional design conducted in November 2017. The sample of this study is all medical records of breast cancer patients in Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang in 2016 that meets the inclusion and exclusion criteria of 52 subjects. Sampling is done by consecutive sampling. Data obtained by observation on medical record. The results obtained were analyzed by Gamma correlation test. Result: the proportion of the highest degree of malignancy in stage III was 34.6%. In the correlation test showed significant variable albumin (p=0,026, r=-0,489) and total protein had significant correlation (p=0,044, r=-0,551) to the degree of malignancy in breast cancer patient with negative correlation direction and medium correlation strength, while the globulin variable did not affect the degree of malignancy in breast cancer patients (p=0.138, r=-0.333). Conclusion: There was a significant correlation between albumin variables and total protein against malignancy in breast cancer patients
