Abstract

Gambir leaf water extract is formulated into transfersom to increase its bioavailability so the penetration of catechins in the stratum corneum increases, but transfersom has weaknesses in its application so it needs to be formulated into gambir leaf water extract transferom gel to facilitate use and maximize transferom delivery. Gambir leaf water extract transferom gel was formulated using a gel base combination of carbopol and PVA with a concentration variation of 0%, 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, and 2%. The optimum formula is selected based on the evaluation of organoleptic characteristics, viscosity, pH, dispersion, adhesion, protection power, washability, diffusion rate, and transferom gel stability. The optimum formula obtained is transferom gel with a ratio of carbopol and PVA concentrations of 1%: 1%. The evaluation results show that the optimum formula fulfills almost all the requirements of the tests carried out, including organoleptic testing, viscosity, pH, homogeneity, protection potential, washability, diffusion rate and transferom gel physical stability. The evaluation results of viscosity, pH, washed power, and %diffused potential of optimum formula in a row were 3420; 6,23; 3,6; 2.7; and 96.67%. Evaluation of protection potential shows that the optimum formula has the ability to protect the skin from outside influences. Transfersom gel stability testing with temperature levels shows that the optimum formula has a shelf life value of 5 days at refrigerator temperature, 4 days at room temperature and 2 days at oven temperature (40°C). Transferom gels have better stability at refrigerator temperatures. The results of the interaction test with FTIR showed that there was no interaction between transferom gel composers which was indicated by the absence of new peaks. Based on the results of the study, gambir leaf water extract transferom is suitable made into gel form because it is better in its delivery.
