Abstract

Dental Caries is damage to the hard tissues of teeth caused by acids present in carbohydrates through the intermediary of microorganisms in saliva. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2012 also stated that in the world around 60-90% of school-age children experience dental caries, while in Indonesia according to Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) in 2007 that the prevalence of active caries in Indonesia was 46.5% .. Symptoms of dental caries such as teeth are very sensitive to heat, cold and sweetness and pain will be felt if it has reached the pulp, this disease often does not get the attention of the public and health program planners. The aim of study to determine the factors related to dental caries prevention in SD Negeri 41 Kota Palembang. The method of this study is quantitative with cross sectional study. The data collection was done through questionnaires distributed to 68 students 4th grades and 5th grades. the results showed that the majority of respondents (70.6%) did dental caries prevention. Based on bivariate results showed there was a relationship between knowledge (p value: 0,036 with PR 1,533) , attitude (p value: 0,043 with PR 1,439), parent's role (p value: 0,020 with PR 1,680) and teacher's role p value: 0,013 dengan PR 1,599) with dental caries and no relationship between sexes (p value: 0,248) and family income (p value: 0,640) with dental caries. The results of this study conclude that the factors associated with prevention of dental caries are knowledge, attitudes, the role of parents and the role of the teacher
