Abstract

The aims of this research were (1) analyze consumption level of the staple food between rice farmer and rubber farmer in Ogan Komering Ulu Timur, (2) analyze diversification of the staple food at rice farmer and rubber farmer in Ogan Komering Ulu Timur, (3) analyze factors that influenced the consumption and diversification of the staple food at rice farmer and rubber farmer in Ogan Komering Ulu Timur.This research was done in Karang Menjangan and Burnai Mulya village Semendawai Timur subdistrict Ogan Komering Ulu Timur. The determination of a place was selected on purpose. Collecting the data was done on February to June 2013. The research method used was survey and the sample collection method was proportionate stratified random sampling. The numbers of sample are 36 rice farmers and 44 rubber farmers. The results of this research show that the level of consumption of staple food (rice) rice higher on farmers as much as 118 kg/capita/year compared with the level of consumption of rice on as much rubber farmers 115 kg/capita/year. Food consumption in addition to rice at the higher rubber farmers of 15,84 kg/capita/year compared to rice farmers amounted to 12,45 kg/capita/year. While this type of food consumption in addition to rice consumption of inhabitants of East Ogan Komering Ulu on rice farmers namely instant noodles, oyek, sweet, and bread. Rubber farmers in the corn, instant noodles, oyek, sweet and bread. The factors that significantly affect the consumption of rice in the rice farmers are income, price of substitute goods, household size, and occupation of housewife. Factors that did not affect the price of rice, the dominant gender and age in the household. While the most dominant factor is the number of household members. While the factors that significantly affect the consumption of rice in farmers rubber is the price of substitute goods, the number of family members, occupation and age housewife dominant in the household.
