Abstract

The research about synthesis composite bentonite/alumina/PEG-1000 has been carried out by coprecipitation method. Composite bentonite/alumina/PEG-1000 were applied to adsorb methyl orange dyes. Composite bentonite/alumina/PEG-1000 were characterized using XRD and SEM-EDS. The XRD characterization of composite bentonite/alumina/PEG-1000 has an increase in intensity and angle of 2θ alumina phase, ie at a peak of 2θ = 67.00 with an intensity of 340, while in bentonite 2θ alumina phase at an angle of 2θ = 68.412 with an intensity of 130. SEM results have morphological differences where the bentonite has a rough, interlayer and slightly porous morphology, while the composite bentonite/alumina/PEG-1000 has a solid surface morphology and many granules that fill between pores, this is due to the addition of alumina . The EDS results showed that the Al content of composite bentonite/alumina/PEG-1000 (24.61%) was greater than that of bentonite (4.59%). The pHpzc value of bentonite at pH 2.94 while the composite of bentonite/alumina/PEG-1000 at pH 4.91. The optimum conditions for absorption of methyl orange dyes by bentonite and composite bentonite/alumina/PEG-1000 at contact time 45 minutes, with adsorbent weights of 0.11 g and 0.09 g at the highest variable concentration of 30 mg/L, with % adsorption optained was 83.17% and 87.03%. Bentonite and composite bentonite/alumina/PEG-1000 adsorption isotherm to methyl orange dyes followed the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm.
