Abstract

The massive infrastructure development is currently in a progress, including building construction and road construction. In contrast, poor quality soils which appears to be the base layer of the construction, lead to an obstacle on the construction progress, which typically found in South Sumatera appears to be an obstacle regarding to the construction without an improvement beforehand. Soil improvement technique which implemented in this research is chemical stabilization of soil using fly ash and renolith toward soaked California Bearing Ratio (CBR) value. In this research, the substitution of fly ash for clay soils used 4 variations including 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% with renolith added for 5% of the weight of fly ash. Each specimen cured for 0 day, 7 days, and 14 days. The result showed the improvement of CBR value on all variations compared to the original soils sample. Fly ash which was rich in aluminosilicate and renolith which acted as binder of soils and fly ash were attributed as the important agent on enhancement of CBR value. Optimum CBR value peaked on mixture with 5% substitution and cured for 14 days with the value of 14,7% and percentage of value change of 278,87% of original soils.
