Abstract

This study was aimed to observe the impact of gradual drought stress on chili pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) during vegetative growth phase. The data were analyzed based on crop growth analysis. This study was conducted from November 2016 to March 2017. The design used in this study was Completely Randomized Design (CRD), with 4 treatments and repeated 6 times. Each replication consisted of 3 plants, so there were 72 plants in total. The treatments were control (CK0), drought stress for 4 Days (CK4), 8 days (CK8), and 12 days (CK12). The results showed that the gradual drought stress inhibited growth of chili pepper during the vegetative phase. Treatment of drought stress for 12 days decreased plant height, leaf area index (LAI), and number of flowers. While, drought stress for 8 days decreased number of leaves, canopy diameter, canopy width, dry weight of root, and dry weight of shoot. However, drought stress for 4 days did not significantly affect growth in chili pepper.
