Abstract

This study aims to examine and evaluate the effect of urea and zeolite mineral fertilization on the C / N ratio and total microbial population in rice plantations (Oryza sativa L) in peat soils. This research was conducted in the greenhouse of Agriculture Training Center (ATC) Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya, South Sumatra in September 2018 - January 2019. C-organic and N-Total analysis was conducted at the Environmental Biotechnology Laboratory of PT Biodiversity Biotechnology, Bogor and total analysis Microbial population was carried out by the Soil Fertility Biology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This study used an experimental method with 9 treatment combinations, where the dose of urea fertilizer combined with zeolite minerals. Doses used were 125 kg ha-1, 250 kg ha-1 and 375 kg ha-1. The results of the study showed that treatment with 125 kg ha-1of urea fertilizer and 375 kg ha-1 of zeolite minerals was the best dose in improving the status of the peat soil C/N ratio. While the dose of urea fertilizer 375 kg ha-1 and zeolite mineral 250 kg ha-1 is the treatment with the highest total microbial population in the whole phase of plant growth. The relationship between C/N ratio and total microbial population has a weak correlation.
