Abstract

Danaus spp. is one of the butterfly species that is best known for its remote migration capabilities, for example from Mexico to Southern Canada. But this species experienced a large population decline due to the destruction of their habitat. This research uses morphometric analysis. Morphometrics are characteristics related to body size or body parts such as total length, standard length, fork length, and so on. Morphometry in this observation is seen from the geographical location. Determination of the location of sampling is done by using the method of purposive random sampling. Sampling uses three methods, namely Visual Encounter Survey (VES), direct collection and using baited trap. Sampling was carried out 3 times per location with time intervals for a week. The observations showed differences in the size of the Danaus spp. which was captured at two locations with different heights. Danaus melanippus indicus found in the highlands has a wing length of 76 mm, Danaus chrysippus orientis butterflies found in the lowlands has a wingspan of 60 mm. The colors on the Danaus melanippus indicus wing found in the highlands were brighter than the colors on the Danaus chrysippus orientis wings and no wing venation differences were found in Danaus spp. which is found in the highlands and lowlands. The existence of Danaus spp. very dependent on climatic conditions and the presence of host plants.
