Abstract

The objectives of this research are : (1) To describe business pattern of plasma and independent palm oil smallholders in Musi Rawas Regency, (2) To analyze differences in production and income between plasma and independent palm oil smallholders in Musi Rawas Regency, (3) To analyze the factors that influence differences in production and revenues between plasma and independent palm oil smallholders in Musi Rawas Regency. The respondents of this research are plasma and independent palm oil smallholders in Musi Rawas Regancy during July 2016. The location of this research was purposively selected. Research method is survey method which means to get sampel from 30 plasma and 30 independent palm oil smallholders. The data was processed by tabulation and it was describe descriptively. The result of this research showed that the difference in the business pattern of plasma and independent palm oil smallholders palm oil are: a) land, the plasma farmers have 2 hectare, whereas the independent palm oil smallholders have 0.5 - 6 hectare. b) the seeds, plasma farmers are certified, whereas independent palm oil smallholders non-certified. c) fertilizing and spraying, plasma farmers have scheduled, whereas independent palm oil smallholders don’t have scheduled. d) the marketing of products, plasma farmers sell the product to companies factory, whereas the independent palm oil smallholders sell the product to broker. Average production of plasma palm oil farmers is 18.531,50 kilograms per hectare per year, with the average income is Rp 19.064.989,48 per hectare per year, while the average production of independent palm oil smallholders palm oil farmers is 12.166,67 kilograms per hectare per year, with the average income is Rp 9.214.478,33 per hectare per year. The results also showed that the factors that affect the income of plasma farmers are revenue, labour cost, herbicide cost and origin, whereas the factors that affect independent palm oil smallholders palm oil are revenue, labour cost, fertilizer cost, herbicide cost, member of family education level and origin.
